Definitely agree with you that, by and large, the world is getting better. Not only the things you mentioned, but people are often surprised to learn that crime has been on the decrease for the past three decades.
It's really surprised me how much people are scared of health care in the states. When health care first arrived in Saskatchewan everyone went, "hey, how come we don't have that?" But Americans don't even seem to realize how happy we are with what we have, let alone want it as well.
