Star Trek movie rocks!

Just got out of a press screening of the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie. It totally, totally rocked, and succeeds 100% at its dual goals both of appealing to hardcore Trek fans and also being totally enjoyable and accessible to those who have never seen any Trek before. This thing is going to have legs; it'll be one of the huge summer blockbusters of 2009.

That's high praise from someone such as yourself. I for one can't wait to see it.

In other words, it will "live long and prosper"?

I don't know, Rob... I like to believe you, but you also liked "Star Trek: the Motion Sickness" (sic). I think I'll just pass-up this latest Trek offering and read your new book instead.

I can't tell you how happy this makes me. I'd been preparing myself for crushing disappointment.

Er, Rob. You realize if I go based on your recommendation and I don't like it, you're on the hook for my movie money. Just saying.

I always liked episodes of the original series that put some good science in the science fiction. Does this movie have some interesting scientific ideas in the premise?

Nicholas, yes: it's a real science fiction film, with intriguing SF ideas.
