Astronomicon canceled?
It looks like Astronomicon, the wonderful little SF con in Rochester, New York, has been canceled for this year. It was to have been November 9-11, 2007, but that info is gone from their website, which now says "Our next convention will be held in November, 2008."
I was guest of honor at Astronomicon 5 in 1996, and have attended most years since. The website is here.

Astronomicon: I love the title. Reminds me of a convention of Occultists :-)
Now that cancellation/postponement - if confirmed - would stink. I've never been to this one myself, but if I were a Rochester SF fan, I suspect that I'd be annoyed.
It's confirmed, Dwight. The con chair sent me an email confirming it.
I saw that on the website, too. Sorry to see it confirmed.
This does not bode well for cons like ours...

Don't say that, Cathy. :) The cancellation of Astronomicon had nothing at all to do with lack of pre-registrations or anything like that. It was a decision made by the new con chair (replacing the wonderful Wayne Brown), who felt his vision of what Astronomicon should/could be could not be realized in time; he also felt that trying to host a con in upstate New York the week after the World Fantasy Convention was there was not likely to succeed -- that's a one-time circumstance, not an ominous trend. :)
I live right here in Rochester, and I couldn't figure out whether Astronomicon 11 was on or not, that's the annoying part. There's no statement on the official website that it was cancelled. Not being part of the in crowd of these things, I went down to the Clarion this morning to find out for certain, and actually found another person looking for it as well, wanted to by some DVDs from a vendor there.
Yeah, the con chair for this year (NOT the wonderful Wayne Brown) said months ago he'd put up a proper notice on the website, and send out a notice to everyone on the con's mailing list. He did neither.
