I'm a busy man, folks ...
So far this month, I've been asked to:
* judge a contest -- results needed the following week
* write a newspaper piece about the 40th anniversary of STAR TREK -- deadline two days later
* write up answers to questions posed by a foreign publisher for an interview to coincide with the release of one of my books in that language -- responses needed in 48 hours
* agree to give a free public lecture on a specific date six weeks from now to help support a cause.
Sorry, folks. I had to say no to all of these. My schedule is packed with things that were booked many months in advance. I'm usually a soft touch to say yes, but the contest has known for many months that it'd need judges; the foreign publisher knew for many months that my book was about to come out; we've actually known for forty years now when the 40th anniversary of STAR TREK was going to be; and as you can see by glancing at my upcoming appearance calendar, I book most most appearances many months (and often over a year) in advance.
If you want something of me, please, please, please ask as early as you can. I want to say yes to you; I really do.
Thanks.

Want to come over for dinner? I made a wonderful hunk of turkey with sun dried tomato and basil sauce.
Mmm Mmm Good!

I just noticed the Fraser-Hickson Library in Montreal has on their webpage that you're visiting on the 17th, but on your calendar it says the 16th. Is there a mistake somewhere?
Gak! Thanks, GP. My understanding is that my listing is correct, but I've sent an email to the involved parties and will find out.
And the Fraser-Hickson library just got back to me. I'm right; they're wrong -- and they are correcting their website. My readings in Montreal in October 2006 are:

Dear Rob,
Hi! This is the radio/TV guy from Twin Falls, Idaho. Earlier this year I attended a model rocketry convention, and I got a "tyranny of the urgent" e-mail asking me if I'd already written a major magazine article about one of the keynote speakers (Lee Piester, founder of the "Centuri" model rocket company). --Oh, and by the way, I had two days to write it in. (shaking head in disbelief)
Then to add insult to injury, the magazine that this article would be published in wouldn't even bother to send me an author's copy, let alone pay me in Real Cash Money. =8-O
So I checked my notes from the convention and tweaked a couple of paragraphs in the big "overview" article.
The *good* news is a guy from New York City started up an entirely new (very professional) rocket magazine, and he asked *me* to write an (unrelated) article for *him.* *And* he actually *pays* his contributors.
Anyway, I can relate all too well. That comes with being in TV news, I guess.
Cheers, and good luck!
